Stockport Radio Society returns to Stockport!

After a number years meeting on the outskirts of the borough, Stockport Radio Society has moved back to the centre of the town.

The society, which will be celebrating it's 90th anniversary in 2010, has moved it's headquarters to Walthew House, Shaw Heath, Stockport SK2 6QS where meetings will be held on the 1st & 3rd Tuesday's of each month. This will also serve as the venue for the society's regular training courses and indeed a Foundation Course was held at the new venue over the weekend of 4th & 5th April. Seven candidates sat the course with all passing the assessment which was another 100% success rate for our team of tutors.

Walthew House, until recently known as Eyeline Stockport, is the centre for residents with sight and hearing disabilities in the local area. Amongst other activities, the Stockport talking Newspaper Association produces a weekly programme at the centre which features local news and items of interest and which is available on CD or audio tape to local residents. Stockport Radio Society member Barrie Turley G6GUT has been involved with this project for many years and was pleased that the society had moved into the new venue. Equipment for listening to the CD's/Audio tapes is made available by the British Wireless for the Blind to qualifying local residents and it is Stockport Radio Society's intention to support the Transmission 2009 event taking place in September 2009.

Members, past members and guests are invited to visit the society at it's new venue. More information about Stockport Radio Society can be obtained by visiting the society's website at www.stockportradiosociety.co.uk or by emailing info@g8srs.co.uk.
